Why not make your way to the ancient city via the 2 Day Inca Trail! This trail is a spectacular mix of fauna, flora, adventure and the best Inca ruins enroute to Machupicchu, and best yet, anybody can do it – you don’t need to be super fit! We have had children of 7yrs old do this trail as well as adults up to 70yrs old!

This trail does require official trekking permits and they are limited, so you do need to check with us on availability. We recommend booking at least 3 months in advance.

The trail starts off with you being collected in your hotel, be that in Cusco or the Sacred Valley, in our private transportation. We drive you to Ollantaytambo Train Station from where you board your train to KM104 – the starting point of the trail. Here you will meet up with your English speaking Guide (who you would have met already at a pre-trek briefing at your hotel the day before). At the check-point you produce your passports to be checked with our official trek documentation and then we cross the bridge over the Vilcanota River to start our adventure!

We begin our hike towards the ruins of Chachabamba, a stone altar site that was used to worship the sun and mountains. After visiting the site we continue the path gradually ascending before entering an overgrown cloud forest and finally reaching an open meadow and then descending into a beautiful area where we will find an amazing waterfall. The total walking time is around 3 hours for this part of the hike.

Next we walk towards the most beautiful ruins on the Inca Trail, Winaywayna. You will love the beauty of these ruins and the surrounding forest. We will have a box lunch here before continuing onwards towards the Intipunku “Sun Gate”. Enroute you will find orchids, bromeliads and tree ferns. The final part of the hike has you climbing 60 Inca stone stairs to reach the Sun Gate. From this point you will be rewarded with beautiful views of Machupicchu! You made it! The light at this time of day is great for photos and with fewer tourists in the site it’s a perfect time to take some pictures of the site.

Time to head down into the ruins to make our way to the town of Aguas Calientes. You will be staying in a hotel tonight and have a traditional dinner at a local restaurant. If you want, this is the time to take a dip in the hot springs in the town. We rest up for the night because we are up early to explore Machupicchu on your second day.
