Day 1 : Lima – Chorrillos – Chincha – Ballestas Islands – Paracas
Pick Up Time: 05.30 am
We collect you from your hotel in Lima and begin our journey south. Our first stop is the “Salto del Fraile” (Leap of the Monk) located in Costa Verde Chorrillos District. Here you will find rocky formation in front of the Pacific Ocean, waves splashing on the rocks, marine wildlife (birds & sometimes we see dolphins right in front of us!)
Close to our first stop we will have a panoramic view of “La Herradura” beach. Once, the most exclusive resort of Lima and now one of the best areas for surfing. Following on from here we stop to get a scenic view of the “Pantanos de Villa” (Villa Wetlands) & Shanty towns. This is a great opportunity to talk about protection of a natural area and the massive migration of people to Lima from the highlands and the consequences it has for the people and the area.
At around 6:50am our next stop is at “Tambo Rural” Km 50 of the Panamerican Highway. Here we find great home made bread and coffee to enjoy!
Continuing on our journey our next stop is at around 8am where we briefing stop in Chincha for a bathroom break and this is a great place to eat some local Peruvian Tamales!
By 10am we rrive at “Muelle El Chaco” to visit to Ballestas Islands. We take you to the harbour of Paracas for a boat excursion. During our tour to the Islands passengers will see many attractions, including beautiful landscapes. Among the attractions, stands out a huge design etched on the slope of hill, known by the local people as The Candelabra. This is an enormous figure that can be seen clearly from the sea. Our boat will stop in front of this figure and our local guide will explain the most important theories concerning this drawing. Afterwards, we will continue our excursion around the Ballestas Islands, where you will see hundreds of birds flying (Peruvian Bobbies, Inca terms, Pelicans, Cormorants and others) above the Islands, as well as dozens of sea lions on the shore of the beaches, and if you are lucky you also can see the famous Humboldt Penguins and dolphins swimming nearby. It is not allowed to land on the Island, which means you will spend all the tour on the boat.
This excursion lasts about 2 hours.
Afterwards we check into our hotel (3-star in Paracas) where you can take a brief siesta if you wish, followed by lunch.
At 3.30pm we venture out again to visit the Paracas Peninsula and its main beaches. Here you can take many photos of the beautiful scenery and hopefully enjoy an amazing sunset!
Day 2 : Paracas – Huacachina – Ica (for flight) – Viña Tacama – Lima
Our day starts today with a good breakfast at the hotel. Around 8am we depart from the hotel towards Huacachina. The huge white sand dunes surrounding the lagoon are perfect to practice one of the most exciting sports in the area “Sandboarding. We venture out to enjoy this sport!
We continue our drive next to the small town of Ica. This is where we are going to take our flight over the Nazca Lines! We will fly over an enigmatic zone, where hundreds of years ago ancient Peruvians drew huge designs, which can be seen only from the air. Among the figures we will see an enormous representation of a monkey, a hummingbird, a condor, and a strange creature known as the Spaceman.
After the flight, at about 2pm, we will visit Viña Tacama (The first enology tour project in Peru). Here we take lunch and afterwards we do a tour of the bodega, called “Tour Don Manuel”. The object of the tour is to provide an exclusive experience by show casing the process of making wines, “espumosos” and the famous pisco. The tour also covers the architecture and history of the property and it ends with a cheese and wine tasting experience in the one and only underground wine cellar in Peru. The tour is around 1h45m.
At 5pm we start our journey back to Lima ending in your hotel around 9pm.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please note that flights are subject to weather conditions. It can happen that we have to move a flight from the morning to the afternoon which is beyond our control, but in the best interests of our clients safety and well being.
