Palca Canyon and Valle de las Animas "Valley of the Souls"

Our half day tour begins with an early collection from your hotel.

We head to the southern-most outskirts of La Paz. Take in the sights of the wealthier neighborhoods of the city, contrasting the vast differences in both architecture and culture.

We commence a hike of around 2½ hours descending in to the Palca Canyon. The landscape through the Soul Valley or Valle de las Animas displays the raw power that Mother Nature possesses. Very similar to the Moon Valley, rocky bluffs and columns litter the landscape -a result of thousands of years of exposure to the elements and its ensuing erosion.

Towards the back of the valley is the famous and sacred Illimani Mountain with its massive slopes sleepily watching over us as we hike through the canyon. Here we can find a multitude of rare and endangered species including vizcacha, chinchillas and if we're lucky, the illusive Andean Condor - a very special site in the Andean region as it is becoming more and more endangered each year.

Enjoy a picnic lunch at the end of the hike amid the remarkable landscape and its native inhabitants, under the watchful eye of Illimani. We will then head back to our private transport and make our way back to La Paz where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
